Inspired by a specific necklace, the Peek box takes a new approach to the traditional jewelry container. The necklace, designed by Lora Sutton of London Particulars, retains the intricacy of its previous life as an antique watch movement. A piece this delicate calls for an appropriate housing, one which echoes both the ruggedness and high level of surface finish that characterize watch bodies.
Machined out of solid aluminum and polished to a mirror finish, the peek box achieves just this. Custom-made velvet pillows line the inside, while a magnetic closure holds the two pieces together. Slide the upper half back slightly and the polarity switches, allowing the user to peek inside while still holding the lid in place.
